## Backflow prevention devices

After a device is installed and passes its initial test, it must be tested every 12 months by a certified tester. DEP says failing to do the annual test can lead to fines or disconnection of water service.

## Sprinkler and standpipe systems

The NYC Fire Code requires the five-year tests above and says the test report must be kept for at least five years and be available to the Fire Department. Proposals to shorten the interval have been introduced in the City Council, so check whether the rule has changed.
